How often to apply DIY Face Serums?
Face serums work more effectively if you apply them twice daily.
Taking into account the constant global changes in weather, it is more beneficial to keep extra care of your skincare routine. This is why using the serum twice a day is preferable. However, if by any means applying it twice a day is not possible, using it thrice a week would be more than amazing.
One thing that might concern most of you would be if applying it daily would do any harm?
The answer to this question is that as long as it’s a homemade DIY face serum, it would only do well. Therefore, apply it as much as you want. I usually apply it 4 to 5 drops a time. And I kid you not, it not only lasts longer but also illuminates my face.
The Proportion of Face Oils in Face Serums
The appropriate proportion of oil depends on the quantity you are aiming to prepare. For essential oils, I use the exact amount mentioned in the original recipe i.e. 20 drops. However, for carrier oils, 3-4 tablespoons are preferable.
Morning and Night Face Serums
When I started using face serum for clear skin, I was naive of this information. This caused me a lot of problems as I was using the same formulation for both, day and night time. The pain of investing all that effort and waking up with no results on the face was highly demotivating. Therefore, I won’t let you all suffer from this.
So while you are using DIY face serum for glowing skin at both times of the day, it is essential to be mindful of the fact that you don’t use the same formulation. This is because the process of applying the serum day and night is completely different. And, how you apply skin products or serums in your skincare regime matters significantly.
In the morning you apply a serum in a much higher quantity because of protecting your face from the outside environment. On a contrary, serums used at night hours are generally hydrating serums. They mainly clean the pores that makeup might have caused.
With this, let me make you aware of the specific order for applying the morning and night serums.
Applying morning serums
- Begin with cleansing your face with either an oil-based cleanser or a water-based cleanser. Using toner or astringent after that is effective.
- Now apply a serum, eye cream, face oil, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
- At this stage, you can apply regular foundation, bb cream or whatever you wear.
Applying night serums
- In your night routine, you must include oil-based makeup remover with a water-based cleanser. Exfoliating the face with a clay mask is advisable.
- Now, use a hydrating mist or a toner. You should use a hydrating serum after all this.
- After this, you should apply a face serum and end with either a night cream or a sleep mask.
Of course, not all steps are necessary but you should never sleep with makeup or dirty face. Make sure to at least remove the makeup and just cleanse your face. Then, apply the serum.
