Important Skincare Routine Steps

Let me walk you through the basic skincare steps.

There exist plenty of people who are naïve to these steps. Even if you have no experience with skincare routines, here is an easy step-by-step procedure for keeping one.

Step 1. Cleansing

This is the first and the most significant step that leads the whole process of the skincare routine. It majorly emphasizes washing your face to remove dirt. You can do cleansing by rinsing off your face twice a day which includes the morning and night time of the day. It not only removes dirt but also frees the face from excessive oils, dead skin cells from the clogged pores. Coupled with this, it prepares the face for applying makeup.

Step 2. Exfoliation

This step is my personal favourite and loves the wonders it does on the skin. However, most people often forget this step in a hurry. This may be because people don’t realize how miraculously it works to freshen up the face. Exfoliation removes the excess dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. These dead skin cells clog up your pores with excess bacteria and oils. It is advisable to do exfoliating 2 to 3 times a week.

Step 3. Toner

Using toner would help to stabilize the pH levels of the skin. This further creates a balance between the acidic and alkaline levels of the skin, moisturizing the skin.

Step 4. Serum / Essence

The serum will not only moisturize the skin but will also reduce or cure the inflammation on the face. It also clears all the clogged pores on the face and helps in overcoming wrinkles and acne.

Step 5. Moisturise the skin

This is an essential step that can help to fight the process of aging. Definitely, skin that is very well-nourished and hydrated is effective in slowing down the aging process. Coupled with this, it also helps the person to get off from fine lines, wrinkles and many other skin issues. Moisturizers serve as a protective barrier for the skin that shields the skin from other issues.

Step 6. Eye Cream

Clear, flawless facial skin is impossible to achieve without working for your eyes. Your eyes reflect the beauty therefore, it is necessary to have an eye care routine. Eye cream is useful for treating your under-eye issues which include wrinkles, dark circles and puffy eyes.

Oftentimes, dermatologists suggest applying an eye cream that is free from all sorts of fragrances and chemicals. You can use an eye cream that has rich concentrations of active ingredients.

Step 7. Sunscreen

Sunscreen is the most crucial skincare product because it protects the skin from all the harmful substances that don’t seem that big to us. It protects the skin from the damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays that can cause skin cancer. Moreover, it prevents you from blackheads, fine lines, wrinkles, acne aging and many other skin issues.

The Correct Skincare Routine Order To Follow

Considering all the aforementioned steps, this article will move ahead to highlight a bit on the correct skincare routine order. This includes both the morning and as well as the night skincare routine. So sit back, relax and keep on scrolling.

Morning Skincare Regimen

Morning skincare routines are useful for protecting the skin and prevent the emergence of any skin problems. You expose yourself out in the sun more often. In order to help the skin fight against the harmful elements of the sun, you strictly need sunscreen and moisturiser.

The correct morning skincare routine is as follows;

Step #1. Use a Good Cleanser

There are two types of cleansers that you can use. The first is the oil-based cleanser which aims to dissolve the excess oils that our skin produces. Hence, is effective for anyone but most preferably for oily skin. The second type of cleanser is a water-based cleanser that aims to remove water-based impurities such as sweat.

You can also use homemade cleansers mentioned here. Both the cleanser can work perfectly well on wet skin. Apply it on wet skin and rinse off before it dries out.

Step #2. Apply a Toner

Toners hydrate the skin and eliminate dead cells and debris that are left behind after cleansing. You can also use an astringent as a substitute if you don’t have a toner. An astringent is an alcohol-based product that reduces excess oil.

Use a toner after cleansing. Soak a cotton pad into it and apply it to the face in an outward direction. If you use astringent, it is advisable to skip it if you have dry skin.

Step #3. Use a Face Serum

Serums consist of high levels of certain ingredients. A serum rich in antioxidants will prevent the damages caused by volatile molecules. Using serums that have high concentrations of vitamin C and E commonly improve the firmness and texture of the skin.

The serums that have green tea, caffeine and resveratrol as ingredients are also preferable. You can make any of these best DIY face serums at home.

Simply pat a few drops onto the face and neck region.

Step #4. Apply an Eye Cream

The skin surrounding your eyes is usually sensitive and thinner than the rest of your body. It’s also prone to fine lines, puffiness, and blackness, which are all indicators of age. A decent eye cream or homemade eye masks can help to brighten, smooth, and tighten up the area, but it won’t solve all of the problems.

Using your ring finger, dab a small quantity onto the eye area. However, if your moisturizer and serum are appropriate for the eye area, has an effective formulation, and is fragrance-free, you can skip this step.

Step #5. Lighter Face Oil

The earlier you apply a lighter product, the better. It is preferable that you use it before moisturizers because of its light nature. They’re especially beneficial if your skin is dry, flaky, or dehydrated. Using your fingertips, squeeze a few droplets. Gently rub them together to warm the oil before dabbing it onto your face.

Step No#6- Moisturize your skin

All of us are aware of how aesthetic makeup looks on well moisturized and hydrated skin. Therefore, apply a moisturizer that best suits your skin type and soften the skin for a glowing look. Warm a small bit (about the size of a pea) in your palms. Apply upward strokes to the cheeks first, then the rest of the face.

Step #7. Heavy Face Oil

Heavy oils are those that take a long time to penetrate the skin or just feel thick. These are best for dry skin types and therefore applied after a moisturizer to seal in all of the benefits. Apply it in the same manner as you did in lighter oil.

Step #8. Apply Sunscreen

The final step in your morning skincare routine is to apply sunscreen. It not only lowers the chance of skin cancer but can also help you battle the symptoms of aging. Apply generously on your face and massage in. Apply it at least 15 to 30 minutes before going outside. Applying skincare items on top of sunscreen can dilute it so try avoiding that.

If you want to apply some foundation after this step, you can do so. Nonetheless, a cream-based, liquid-based or powdered-based foundation is most preferable. Skip this step if you want to go all-natural.

Night Skincare Regimen

You may want to radically alter your nighttime skincare routine for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that you won’t need SPF. Your skin regenerates and heals itself as you sleep, your bedtime regimen is the ideal time to ensure your skin is getting as many nutrients and active components as possible.

The core procedures that includes cleansing, toning, and moisturizing will remain the same at night, but the process will be slightly different.

The night skincare routine order includes the following steps;

Step #1. Make up remover

Follow the product’s specific instructions. Apply the makeup remover on the wet skin or dry skin and rinse off with a cleanser.

Step #2. Cleanse Your Face

Use a light cleanser throughout the day, but at night, use a cleanser that helps remove makeup, such as a cleaning oil. If you want to go the additional mile, use a water-based face wash following an oil cleanser to remove any remaining dirt and oil from your pores.

Step #3. Use a Toner

If you want to use toner, do so just like you would in the morning. Do this before the application of serums and treatments.

Step #4. Apply Face Serum

Alpha hydroxy acid is beneficial for brightening up the skin and sloughs of dead skin cells. It helps to build collagen and enhances radiance. It is best to apply during nighttime. You can also apply retinol which is a form of vitamin A that helps to reduce wrinkles and dark spots.

Step #5. Eye Cream

Use a bit of the serum around the eye region or you can use the same eye cream you used for the morning routine.

Step #5. Moisturize your face

Moisturizing at night is vital because it builds a barrier that keeps active chemicals and hydration in. As a result, when you wake up, your skin will be glowing and plump, and you’ll be ready to take on the day.

Step #6. Apply face oils

Face oils are an excellent technique to keep moisture in your skin as you sleep. Many people believe that if they have acne or oily skin, their skin would break out due to the oils, but this is not the case. Many of them can actually aid in the hydration and softening of the skin.  Face oils are a wonderful method to add extra hydration, especially when you’re using active chemicals like retinol and alpha-hydroxyl acids.

Step #7. Sleeping Mask (once or twice a week)

Sleep masks keep all of your other products in place and offer moisturizing elements that are gentle enough to wear all night.

Common Skincare Routine Mistakes

Some of the most common mistakes that people do while following a skincare routine are;

  • After cleaning, not applying moisturizer/product promptly enough.

You’re not applying your moisturizer at the appropriate time if you don’t apply it within one minute of cleansing. Because your skin can get dry very quickly after cleansing, it’s critical to apply moisturizer while it’s still wet. Applying moisturizer as soon as possible after a shower or washing your face can alleviate that tight, dry feeling.

  • Using a local soap to cleanse the face

If you hesitate to buy a better cleanser and continue to wash your face with bar soap every day, you’re probably doing far more harm than good. When you wash your face with bar soap, you are letting the dead cells build up on the skin.

  • Intensely rubbing the product on the skin

Rubbing might irritate your skin, so always massage products to the face and neck with soft, gentle upwards strokes.

  • Avoiding double cleansing

The process of double cleansing involves cleansing oil, balm and micellar water. All of this removes makeup. After this, you use a water-based cleanser to remove everything else and the remaining impurities. You’re probably not scrubbing completely enough if you’re not double cleansing, which can contribute to breakouts and irritation.

  • Applying a skincare product in a wrong order

You might be applying skin-care products in the wrong order if you have a lot of them in your routine. This restrains you from getting the full benefits of the products. To ease yourself, use a skincare routine order as mentioned above.

  • Using too much product

Sometimes, using a product in greater quantities can be harmful to the skin. So it is necessary to use cosmetic products in the correct proportion. You can figure out that through the instructions written on the product.

The Perfect Skin Care Routine Order

Is there any perfect skin care routine? To be honest, it differs.

Skincare regime order varies from person to person and this is why what you might do will always differ from what someone else would do. But the basic steps remains the same of cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing. Hence, if this goes well, everything else will surely fit in perfectly.
